Team Name Ithaca (1st Category winner)
Project Name Ithaca: From Open Data to Linked Open Data
Brief Project Description
Ithaca is a tool that reads open datasets, converts their data to RDF triples and loads the derived triples in a Virtuoso warehouse, offering thereby an API (specifically a SPARQL endpoint) for directly exploiting the data. This hack was motivated by the fact that, although the provided datasets are open, their data is not "linked" and directly accessible through an API. Auser/developer cannot browse their content, identify connections among their data and retrieve a particular piece of information. Ithaca solves this problem by exploiting the dynamic, distributed and open nature of Linked Open Data.
