RESULTS AND OUTCOMES FROM THE HOMER PROJECT IN CRETE
The University of Crete organized the event entitled “Open conference on Open Data: Results and outcomes from the HOMER project” at the Chania Chamber of Commerce and Industry premises (Crete) last 2 March.
In this context, representatives of public and local agencies and organizations, educational institutions, businesses, and citizens had the opportunity to learn, discuss and exchange views, ideas and experiences on open access and re-use of public sector information, the benefits of openly available data, open source software and the essential contribution of technology to the use of open data for the development of innovative tools and services.
The event included presentations from the University of Crete team, regarding the activities and outcomes of the European Project HOMER, the new version of the Crete Open Data portal as well as two pilot applications that were developed in the context of e-Participation activity. Also, there were speeches presented by the Region of Crete, the Agrotourism Union of Crete, GFOSS and the Informatics counsellor for the 2nd degree education in Chania. Finally, there was a presentation from CSI Piemonte about their good practices on Open Data. The event concluded with an open discussion among all participants.
